Bhopal, with a population of 1.8 million is popularly referred to as the ‘city of lakes’ owing to the vast number of water bodies within the city. There are several water bodies that surround the city as well. Among these, the Upper Lake and the Kolar Reservoir are the main sources of drinking water for the city. Despite its richness in water resources, there are grave concerns regarding their sustainability.
